Short featurette ‘Clemency policy in cartel cases’ for the NMa
Arnhem, April 28, 2008

On Wednesday, April 24th, the featurette ‘Clemency policy in carel cases’ for the NMa, was officially presented to the press. The aim of this informative film, which was produced by Four Corners and commissioned by the NMa, is to raise awareness of the clemency policy and thereby to track down more cartel cases. The film may be viewed on the NMa website.

Mr. Pieter Kalbfleisch, LL.M., president of NMa’s Board of Directors, is quoted in De Telegraaf: “You see entrepreneurs regarding one another when making price-deals, as to who would be the first to report the cartel and thus be acquitted from penalties. The film provides a clear view of how these matters take place in reality. The clemency policy itself has proven an important asset in the struggle against cartels.”

Walk in the park
This project was no walk in the park. NMa’s BoD demanded the film be released on very short notice. Therefore we began developing the script immediately. A whole new element to the proceedings were our script-meetings with the NMa-lawyers. These meetings went a little bit different from what we’re used to. Naturally, nothing could be left to chance.

Clenched Shut
Yet, despite our initial reservations toward the idea of working with lawyers, these guys turned out to be really nice people. We’ve had a great deal of fun while producing this featurette. A funny detail occurred in the way you usually talk with your clients about their work and what they’re currently doing. With the NMa, things went rather differently… They smiled a bit, and held their mouths clenched shut. They merely beamed when asked what they were up to. “You’ll “shortly read it in the newspapers…” would be their usual reply. The film is not only available on our site, but also through www.nmanet.nl or YouTube, for a higher resolution.
On the nine o’clock news…
