Pimp your commercial!
5 Tips
Tip 1 – Have some music produced.
Get some music developed especially for your commercial. This will give your product or brand a unique personality of its own.
Tip 2 – Choose a well-known voice.
A voice your audience recognizes will generate a lot of trust. In the Netherlands, Gijs Scholten van Aschat, for example, does many commercials for cars, just like Daniël Boissevain. Isa Hoes is well-known from the Balance Activ-commercial and from Activia. And Nienke Römer (daughter of Piet, sister of Thijs) is the voice of Simyo.nl.
Tip 3 – Use a celebrity
Commercials starring celebrities are highly popular. In Holland, there’s the Telefoongids-clips with Ruud & Estelle, Isa & Antonie and Rene & Natasja; the Postbank-commercials with Jan Mulder, the detergent-clips with Ilse de Lange, Yvon Jaspers and Leco van Zadelhoff; and the Hak-vegetables that have gotten Martine Bijl out of retirement.
Tip 4 – Add a touch of style
You could, for example, add lots and lots of colour or a certain shade to the image, or do the opposite and distract colour. This will help the recognisability of the commercial. Take as an example the three different CSIs: CSI, CSI Miami and CSI New York. You would never mix these up, because each series has its own style and colour. The same could be done for your product or brand.
Tip 5 – Be different!
Get off the bloody yellow brick road and do something wild! Make sure that your commercial is on everybody’s lips during lunch-break.
