Bols Bartending Academy
It just happens, so now and then, that you have this client that people will want to get in line for. The name alone is a must-have on your list of references. And you’ll want to work exceptionally hard for that. For us, Bols was one of those.
Advertising company Campagne Communicatie from Rotterdam called us, inquiring whether we would make a short and speedy commercial for the Bols Bartending Academy. Need I say more? Of course we didn’t turn that one down!
Assignment
So, Lex travelled to the beautiful offices of Campagne Communicatie, located in a large farmhouse, for a brainstorm session with one of the guys of Campagne Communicatie. These people are building a completely new website for the Bols Bartending Academy and the commercial we would produce would be integrated in it. It soon became clear that Lex and Campagne Communicatie were of the same mind with regard to the commercial. The trendy flick needed to be a cataract of images, thundering down before the eyes of the viewer, to the sound of a groovy beat.
Recording
And what was discussed, will most definitely be. On the day of the shoot, Lex and cameraman Shaun headed for Amsterdam in the early hours of dawn. Shooting took place mainly in the House of Bols Museum, which is situated directly opposite the world-famous Van Gogh Museum. Okay, so we’re located in the beautiful and green Arnhem, but it is always nice to get a taste of genuine Amsterdam atmosphere. We’ve made the recordings in an MTV-like style, so we brought a crane along.
This enabled us to create a lot of movement in the shots. This assignment was pretty much a rush-job. Everything, from recording to delivery, had to take place within one week. That basically meant we were working long hours and overtime during the weekend. Creating such a film just takes time, lots of time. But, thanks to the devoted exertions of our editor, Thorsten, we naturally made the deadline for the promo, and both Campagne Communicatie as well as Lucas Bols reacted in superlatives. This was the icing on our cake. Some of Bols’ reactions on the film: “Great! Congratulations on this fantastic flick! This is a marvellous report of the entire course, and a delightful atmosphere.” “Indeed, many compliments for this exhilarating promo. Have to admit it gave me Goosebumps just watching it!”
We had a great time making this production for Lucas Bols and we are currently having meetings regarding possible follow-ups!
